Lustre - "Into the Ancient Darkness"

LUSTRE on Spotify

I first heard this song when I was initially getting into atmospheric black metal. If you click on the YouTube video above you will plainly be able to see why it made quite an impression on me. Haunting. Disturbing. Even frightening in it's minimalism, I don't want to give it away in case you haven't heard it.

Although the track stuck with me like a pesky companion I soon forgot it's name. I thought I'd forgotten the band's name, too, although I was always reasonably sure it was Lustre or Locran. A couple of years later I was still trying to track it down. I must have gone through every track Lustre and Locran had available on Spotify. Never had any luck and I wondered if I had after all forgotten the actual band's name.

Then, last night as I was going through the Rock Playlist Directory I made years ago, I noticed a greyed-out track from Lustre...when a track is greyed-out it means it is part of the artist's catalog but for whatever reason is not available on Spotify. Usually you can find those tracks on YouTube so that's the first place I checked.

Sure enough. "Into the Ancient Darkness" is the song that transfixed and proceeded to freak me out so long ago. I wish I knew why it's not currently on Spotify, as I like it better than practically everything else Lustre has available.

I'm posting that video here...so that I never forget again.
